An Alterations Code can ensure that renovated buildings improve their energy efficiency at key points in the lifecycle of that building, where improvements are expected to remain in place for decades.

While the provincial government has been exploring options for an alterations code for several years, there has yet to be any upgrade requirements that would ensure existing buildings are retrofitted to more modern efficiency standards.
