Description
The Corporate Strategic Energy Management Plan (SEMP) was completed in 2023 and is the City of Kelowna’s blueprint for becoming more energy efficient and reducing its corporate greenhouse gas emissions from corporate buildings. The SEMP outlines the recommended 2030 corporate energy and emissions targets and details the plan to achieve progress toward these targets and beyond.
Some of the key SEMP initiatives in 2024 include:
Facility Energy Modernization Renewal Program: This program targets low-cost energy efficiency measures across our building portfolio which typically do not get captured in the capital process. Example projects included LED bleacher lighting at Rutland Arena, full LED lighting renewal at Enterprise Firehall, and a Rutland Arena hot water tank renewal project.
Building Automation Renewal Program: This work was part of a broader initiative to enhance the efficiency and reliability of HVAC systems in our buildings. This work involved the installation and commissioning of Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, which are designed to control heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and certain mechanical equipment to increase reliability and energy efficiency, at our Windsor Road office.
Facility Efficiency Studies: Building from the 2023 Facilities Efficiency Study, heat sharing and recovery opportunities were explored at Rutland and Memorial Arena.
