Description
Capturing methane that would be otherwise emitted to the atmosphere can help to reduce emissions and make use of an otherwise wasted resource.
The Glenmore Landfill in Kelowna captures biogas from the decomposition of solid waste and an adjacent FortisBC upgrading facility converts the gas to renewable natural gas. The RNG is blended into FortisBC's natural gas system.
Staff are exploring other RNG options, such as the potential to capture gas from a future anaerobic digester as part of a new wastewater treatment facility.
