Description
The community relies on the City for essential services, such as water supply, potable water and wastewater treatment, road and traffic maintenance, solid waste disposal (in partnership with the RDCO), fire prevention, and recreational/cultural programs. The infrastructure that enables these essential services is very important to support the economy and provide the first line of protection against shocks and disasters.
Elements of emergency services and critical infrastructure are city owned and non-city owned which are outlined in the list of considered facilities/services:
- Emergency Operation Centre.
- Hospital (non-city owned).
- Police, Fire or Ambulance Station (7 fire stations city owned, Policing provided by the RCMP, Ambulance services provided by BC Health services)).
- Distribution System (non-city owned).
- Electrical Generation / Substation (non-city owned).
- Reservoir (city owned and non-city owned utility); and
- Treatment Plants (city owned and non-city owned utility).
Ensuring that this critical infrastructure is designed to withstand climate hazards will help ensure essential services are not disrupted.
