Description
Limited policy, tools, and procedures have been developed to date to ensure that land use planning and development decisions adequately consider the impacts, opportunities, risks and potential benefits and savings of climate change.
Understanding that land use and development decisions have long-term climate impacts which can endure for many decades, assessing developments in Kelowna through a climate lens is a critical to reducing GHG emissions and preparing for a changing climate.
The City recently completed a study entitled "Applying a Climate Lens to the City of Kelowna Development Process". One of the initial recommendations is to update the 2040 OCP Form and Character Guidelines with additional climate considerations. Staff from the Climate Action & Environmental Stewardship Department are working with the Long-Range Planning and Development Planning Departments to follow through on this recommendation.
