Description
To better plan for growth, Kelowna created Model City, a parcel-based digital twin data model. It uses Esri’s ArcGIS technology to integrate disparate data and provide a comprehensive picture of what Kelowna looks like today, tomorrow and in the future.
While the initial use of Model City was to assess the infrastructure costs associated with different growth scenarios, there is potential to assess climate data as well. For example, could we leverage actual and modelled building construction data to understand each parcels current energy and emissions profile and what retrofits might be needed to meet climate targets?
Between 2020 and 2024, staff worked with CANMet Energy Ottawa to model energy and emissions at the parcel level for properties in Kelowna. Staff are considering using this dataset as an initial application of Model City Climate.
