Description
Construction waste is the largest category of material sent to the Glenmore Landfill. Biodegradable items, including wood, paper, and certain types of insulation, decompose over time and may release methane and carbon dioxide. Non-biodegradable materials, such as plastic, metal, and concrete, have limited decomposition related emissions, but may have substantial lifecycle emissions from extraction and production; these materials also result in long-term waste management considerations.
The City collaborated with the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) on a Construction, Renovation & Demolition (CRD) Market Capacity Assessment in 2023 and 2024.
The City also conducted a pilot deconstruction project for several City-owned buildings in 2023.
